Collins Settlement Site (Local Port of Port Phillip, Collins Settlement Site Historic & Cultural Features Res.)

Collins Settlement is located on Leggett Way in Sorrento, set amongst coastal scrubland along the foreshore of Port Phillip. Collins Settlement is named after Lieutenant Collins, who attempted the first permanent settlement here in Victoria in 1803. The site was abandoned after approximately one year, due to the lack of fresh water and suitable agricultural land.

Collins Settlement has a short circuit walk where you can read interpretive signage and immerse yourself in the cultural heritage or take in the views of Port Phillip from the lookout high on the Eastern Sister headland.

Snakes are also another creature that calls this area home, so please stay on the existing paths to avoid any unnecessary encounters. There are no toilets available at this site and the Camerons Bight beach is not patrolled by lifeguards.
