Managing Calcine Sands

Calcine sands, a type of mine tailings, have been identified in an area of Bethanga Historic Area, close to the corner of Hollow Street and Martins Road. These tailings were generated from former mining activities and contain elevated levels of contaminants, such as arsenic, which can be harmful to human health. Please follow the advice of signs in the area and avoid any contact with the calcine sands. Parks Victoria and the Environment Protection Authority are working together to understand the extent of calcine sands and implement management actions.
