Altona Pier Rebuild Works and Exclusion Zone

Details:

Mariners are advised of demolition and rebuild works to Altona Pier, at approximate location: 37°52.374’S, 144°49.812’E (WGS84).

An Exclusion Zone will be established around the pier, extending approximately 100 metres on either side of the pier and pier head. The exclusion zone will taper to approximately 50 metres on either side of the pier towards the shore. The Exclusion Zone will be marked with lit special mark buoys at the following approximate locations (WGS84):

1. 37° 52.3256′S, 144° 49.8800′E 2. 37° 52.4029′S, 144° 49.8847′E

3. 37° 52.4500′S, 144° 49.8568′E 4. 37° 52.4559′S, 144° 49.7576′E

5. 37° 52.3892′S, 144° 49.7041′E 6. 37° 52.3229′S, 144° 49.7204′E

The works will involve general construction and demolition activities and will be undertaken with barges and work boats. On-water plant, equipment and potential hazards to navigation arising from the works will be marked as per IALA standards.

Mariners are prohibited from entering the Exclusion Zone from the date nominated above and are advised to navigate with caution within the vicinity of the works.

Relevant Law:

The Exclusion Zone has been established under Section 211 of the Marine Safety Act 2010. Entry is prohibited to all persons excluding the individuals involved in the works and Parks Victoria officers.
