Rail Bridge Maintenance Works and Exclusion Zone – Southern Span

Monday 22 September 2025 until further notice

Details:

Mariners are advised of continued works to the Rail Bridge over Patterson River from the date noted above. The works involve a barge positioned under the bridge within an exclusion zone to enable safe access.
 
An existing exclusion zone will remain along the north and south bank, from approximately 60m upstream to 60m downstream of the Rail Bridge between the following approximate locations (WGS84):  38°04.328’S, 145°07.347’E, and 38°04.353’S, 145°07.252’E
 
The exclusion zone extends to include the southern transit lane beneath the bridge as shown in Figure 1 below.  The exclusion zone for the northern transit lane has been removed.
 
The northern transit lane will remain open for all vessel traffic.  Vessels travelling upstream have right of way.

Mariners are advised to navigate with caution when transiting beneath the Patterson River Rail Bridge, avoid creating wash, and obey all speed limits and signage

Relevant Law:

The exclusion zone has been established under section 211(1) (b) of the Marine Safety Act 2010. Vessels are prohibited from entering the exclusion zone, excluding vessels involved directly in the works and Parks Victoria vessels.

442(T)-2025 is referred and cancelled.
