Explore all Warby-Ovens National Park has to offer

Wednesday 25 November, 2020

Right on the doorstep of Wangaratta, Warby-Ovens National Park on Yorta Yorta Country is a great place for a day trip or to camp overnight, with so much variety and something for everyone to enjoy.

This diverse park offers visitors the chance to experience spectacular views, great walking and cycling, canoeing, boating and fishing, birdwatching, scenic drives or relax at your campsite and watch the local wildlife.

The park's three distinct landscapes - the granitic hills and woodlands of the Warby Range, the Box‐Ironbark forests of Killawarra, and the River Red Gum forests and wetlands of the heritage-listed Ovens River - provide a sanctuary for native plants and animals.

Explore the maze of walking tracks in the Warby Range and Killawarra Forest and enjoy the park's diverse birdlife and spring wildflowers. Or relax by the Ovens River with a picnic or barbecue. Bring your gear and spend a few days camping, swimming, fishing and boating.

The park - 10 kilometres west of Wangaratta – is best accessed via Wangandary and Yarrawonga Roads.

Visitors to parks and reserves are reminded of physical distancing, hygiene and face-mask requirements, and to stay home if unwell.

Quotes attributable to Jessica Reid, Area Chief Ranger, Parks Victoria:

“It’s a great time to explore our own backyard and experience everything Victoria has to offer. The views from Ryan's Lookout and Kwat Kwat Lookout are a favourite of mine, with alpine peaks in the distance.

The beautiful Ovens River offers some of the best still-water canoeing in the state, ideal for paddlers of any ability.

Early morning and late afternoon are generally the best times to see birds and other wildlife, like Swamp Wallabies or Eastern Grey Kangaroos.”
