Gipps Street Ramp
Planning has resumed to replace the Gipps Street steps on the Main Yarra Trail at Abbotsford with an elevated shared path ramp. Once complete, the new ramp will provide improved accessibility and a more enjoyable experience for all users of the Main Yarra Trail.
What stage is the project at now?
After experiencing some delays, the Gipps Street Ramp project is back underway. The design that best suits the needs of trail users and residents requires the acquisition of land to the south of Gipps Street, and this process has taken longer than expected.
The design process with the Landscape and Urban Design team has resumed, taking into consideration community and stakeholder engagement over several years. A tender for structural and civil engineers has been released and the rest of the consultant team is expected to be on board by the end of November to further develop the design and prepare for construction.
Stakeholder Task Force
We plan to reconvene a Task Force that was formed earlier in the planning process to ensure the input of local residents, key user groups, local government, the Office of Victorian Government Architects (OVGA), Parks Victoria, Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and representatives from the office of the Member of Parliament for Richmond.
Where to from here?
We understand this project has been planned for some time and are sorry for the frustration these delays may have caused. We appreciate your patience and look forward to improving your experience of the trail in the not-too-distant future!
