David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilions upgrades at Albert Park

Project status:

March 2022: Works have been underway on the pavilion upgrades since Spring 2021.

Background

The David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilion is a much-loved hub for sporting clubs including South Melbourne Districts Sports Club (SMDSC) and AJAX Football Club, located between Ovals 9 and 11 at Albert Park.

The facilities at the pavilion will be updated to meet the need of all users of the pavilion, so that more people can get active and participate in community sport.

The project aligns with the Albert Park Master Plan directions of increasing diversity of users and responds to the strong growth in female participation in these clubs and the provision of contemporary, shared multi-use facilities.

Project benefits

Environment

The natural values of the park will not be impacted by this project as the footprint of the building extension is limited to the existing carparking area.

Community

The project will deliver female friendly and all-abilities access changerooms, providing the facilities for more people to participate in community sport. The project aims to provide sporting facilities that cater to the increase in participation rates of diverse sports and players.

Project funding

This project is jointly funded by Parks Victoria, Sport and Recreation Victoria, AJAX Football Club and South Melbourne District Sports Club.

The Project

The project involves extensions to the David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilions to provide much needed change room facilities which are all-ability accessible and allow for increased usage of the pavilions.
