Gifts, benefits and hospitality register
Parks Victoria is committed to strong governance and to maintaining the highest standards of integrity and public trust.
Our Gifts, Benefits and Hospitality Policy sets out how we respond to and provide offers of gifts, benefits and hospitality. The aligns with the Gifts, benefits and hospitality resource suite issued by the Victorian Public Sector Commission to assist public officials and public sector organisations to meet minimum accountability requirements.
Gift offers are classified as either:
- token (inconsequential or trivial and worth less than $50)
- reportable (non-token).
Our default position is to politely decline all offers of gifts, benefits and hospitality, even where acceptance is permitted under the policy: 'thanks is enough’.
Employees must not accept any gift, benefit or hospitality that could compromise, or be perceived to compromise, their integrity, or that of Parks Victoria. An offer must be refused if it could be perceived to influence decision-making, including in relation to tender processes, procurement or the awarding of grants. Suppliers are expected to comply with the Victorian Government Supplier Code of Conduct.
Any offer valued at $50 or more must be declared. If there is no legitimate business reason to accept the offer, it must be declined.
This approach helps Parks Victoria and our people avoid conflicts of interest and reinforces the Victorian public sector values of impartiality, integrity and accountability, as set out in the Public Administration Act 2004.
