Seasonal road closures
In partnership with Four Wheel Drive Victoria, Parks Victoria works to ensure tracks are available for visitors to safely access remote parts of our parks through the year. To ensure tracks are available during the warmer months of the year, many roads and tracks are seasonally closed to vehicles. These closures prevent damage to the tracks and maintain water quality in sensitive environments during the wetter months.
Seasonal road closures generally operate from after the King's Birthday long weekend in June through to the end of October, but the closures may be extended if conditions are not suitable to safely re-open the roads.
Seasonal road closure extensions
Several seasonal road closures that were originally planned for reopening prior to Cup Weekend (from 30 October) need to be extended:
Alpine National Park (Eastern region)
- Part of Mt Pinnibar Track and Stony Creek Track between Walkers Road intersection and the summit of Mt Pinnibar, and between Mt Gibbo Track intersection and to Stony Creek intersection at Tom Groggin station is closed for maintenance works.
- The Mt Pinnibar Track will reopen as planned in the central section only to enable access to Mt Pinnibar summit. The seasonal closure will be extended for only the western end and the eastern end that connects into Stony Creek Track.
- Revised opening date: 31 December 2025.
Snowy River National Park (Eastern region)
- Betts Creek Track is closed for track maintenance works.
- Revised opening date: 5 December 2025.
Narrawong Flora Reserve (Western region)
- Rifle Range Road (west) to Rifle Range Road (north), Forest Road to Woolwash Road, and Rifle Range (west) to Woolwash Road is closed.
- Road conditions are very wet, and we want to reduce the biodiversity impact from the spread of of Phytophthora cinnamomi.
- Revised opening date: 30 November 2025.
Note: These extensions are in addition to the 12 tracks planned to reopen after mid November 2025 as per list below.
