Seasonal road closures
Parks Victoria works in partnership with Four Wheel Drive Victoria to keep tracks safe and accessible across our parks.
To protect these tracks, many roads are closed to vehicles during the wetter months each year. Rain and snow can soften track surfaces, making them more vulnerable to damage.
Closing roads during this time helps to:
- keep visitors safe.
- prevent track damage and erosion.
- protect water quality in sensitive environments.
When closures apply
Most seasonal road closures:
- start after the King’s Birthday long weekend in June.
- re-open before the Melbourne Cup weekend in November.
Some tracks may close earlier in May, and a few closures extend to late November. If conditions are not safe for planned reopening due to a wet season, some tracks may need to stay closed.
