Family fun at new Yarra Bend playground
Kids visiting spectacular Yarra Bend Park now have a new playground to enjoy thanks to support from the Victorian Government.
The new $200,000 playground at Dickinson Reserve was chosen by public vote and features a big climbing frame, swings and slides.
Environment Minister Steve Dimopoulos and Member for Kew Jess Wilson officially opened the playground on Monday 29 September 2025.
The new facility replaces a playground removed in 2024, as it was at its end of lifespan.
All the equipment in the new playground was manufactured locally and installation completed ahead of schedule.
More than 200 community members got involved in the design and voted on the final choice after an extensive consultation process.
The new playground has been delivered alongside the Asset Regeneration Program, a $24.76 million investment by the Victorian Government to remove unsafe infrastructure and repair or replace assets across Victorian parks.
Yarra Bend Park is Melbourne's largest natural bushland park with a huge range of activities for the whole family, from boating at Studley Park, or visiting the resident flying fox colony, to walking, cycling and fishing.
Other Government investments at Yarra Bend include $1 million upgrade for the Deep Rock Pavilion, one of the popular sports grounds in the park, with works expected to get underway in the coming weeks. The Corben Reserve pavilion is also in the middle of an electrical system upgrade.
