Howqua Hills Historic Area toilet upgrades

The project

This project was delivered on Taungurung Country.

The Howqua Hills Historic Area camping areas provide car-based riverside camping near Mansfield. The spectacular natural setting, location at the gateway to the Western Alps, easy two-wheel drive access and proximity to Melbourne make these camping areas very popular.

In August 2026, Parks Victoria replaced four old toilet blocks in Howqua Hills Historic Area to improve visitor facilities, accessibility and to bring the toilets into compliance with EPA requirements.

Toilet blocks were replaced in below locations:

Sheepyard Flat North & Sheepyard Flat South
Fry’s Flat South & Fry’s Flat North

Toilet designs

The new toilets are cost-effective, sustainable, easy to maintain, and EPA compliant.

Project funding

This project was funded from the Victorian Government’s ‘Victoria’s Great Outdoors’ program.

The Victoria’s Great Outdoors program is a $106.6 million investment by the Victorian Government into better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.
