A draft plan for the future of Sorrento’s pier and port is now open for the community to have their say.

The Sorrento Local Port Area Plan sets out improvements for the maritime precinct, balancing and enhancing existing uses, creating new, safer recreation opportunities and shoring up the future for Sorrento Pier.

Community feedback on the draft plan will ensure Sorrento’s maritime precinct remains a safe and accessible destination for locals and visitors in the coming years. The feedback will be considered in the development of the final plan, for release in mid-2024.

Developing the plan brings together technical advice, stakeholder input and the community’s vision into one document to create a blueprint. 

It includes guidance on the future of Sorrento Pier and how the local port will continue to support commercial operators, integrate with the new ferry terminal, and define vessel channels and fairways.

Sorrento is one of six priority precincts for local port area plans developed under the Sustainable Local Ports Framework - plans are also underway for Mornington Harbour, Rhyll and St Leonards.

Local port area plans help to prioritise future government investment by providing a clear direction on improving the safety and function of local port areas.
