Locals, campers, kayakers and cyclists are invited to join the conversation about Stage One of the Murray River Adventure Trail, with concept designs now available for feedback and comment on Engage Victoria.

New canoe and kayak launches, new pedestrian links and new facilities at several key visitor sites will be delivered from Barmah National Park to Koondrook as part of Stage One of the trail. The trail will pass through Echuca, Murray River Reserve, Gunbower National Park and Lower Goulburn National Park.

Viewable on the Engage Victoria website, concept designs for six proposed new canoe and kayak launches along the trail have been developed in consultation with local tour operators and the paddling community. Three launch types, a stepped-style launch, a ramp and a floating pontoon, have been designed to suit the changing river conditions along the length of the trail. Each water launch features tethering points for watercraft in a flexible design that provides at-level water access at various river heights.

Proposed design for Kiln Bend stepped-style water launch. Key features include: Design which provides water access at various water levels, Grated Fibre Reinforced Plastic (FRP) top surface with non slip qualities, A handrail along one side of the steps for safety, Temporary tethering points for canoes and kayaks that are accessible at various water levels.

A more connected, riverside walking and cycling route is being planned for the Murray River Adventure Trail. The trail will pass through Echuca, Murray River Reserve, Gunbower National Park and Lower Goulburn National Park. Several key pedestrian links will be planned and constructed under Stage One of the project.

Planning for additional sections of trail to connect the route end-to-end will also be completed during this stage but are not funded for construction.

Visit the Engage Victoria project page to view key project features and see where the track is proposed to run in relation to nearby properties and local landmarks.

Have your say by taking the survey before consultation closes 6 October 2024.
