Mount Buffalo National Park reopens

Tuesday 14 October, 2025

Mount Buffalo National Park has reopened with some restrictions following a major police operation.

Most of the popular visitor sites, trails and roads have reopened, including the Chalet and Lake Catani. For full details, including a map, see the Mount Buffalo National Park page on the Parks Victoria website.

The park was closed on advice from Victoria Police after the incident at Porepunkah on 26 August.

Everyone at Parks Victoria thanks the Police for their work during this sad and challenging time for the region.

Local Parks rangers have worked closely with the Police to make sure the park is ready to receive visitors again.

Police will continue to maintain a presence in the area over the coming weeks.
