Water turning on for new cabins at Cape Conran

Thursday 30 April, 2026

Essential water supply and wastewater treatment upgrades will commence at Cape Conran Coastal Park in May 2026. Visitors can look forward to a new drinking water supply and better wastewater facilities, making your stay cleaner, safer, and more comfortable.

New drinking water supply at Cape Conran Coastal Park

The Cape Conran drinking water project will deliver essential infrastructure for the 10 new cabins and the community activity centre at Cape Conran Coastal Park.

The works are part of the Victorian Government’s $29 million investment in renewal and recovery works at Cape Conran – a popular destination for camping, fishing, swimming, and outdoor activities on the East Gippsland coastline.

Temporary Banksia Bluff Campground closures

To complete these important upgrades, all sites across Banksia Bluff Campground will be temporarily closed from late May to the end of October 2026. This stage of work is about making sure the campground can operate safely and reliably into the future, while protecting the surrounding environment.

We’ve scheduled works outside peak visitor periods to help reduce inconvenience.

When the campground is closed visitors can still enjoy access to:

  • Cape Conran beaches and boat ramp
  • East and West Cape day visitor areas
  • lookouts, walking trails and nature experiences.

Works starting from May 2026

The campsite closures are necessary to keep visitors safe while we upgrade drinking water and wastewater systems. The works will involve:

  • large machinery and equipment on site
  • installation of underground tanks and water pipes
  • construction of supporting infrastructure.

Please follow all safety signs when visiting during the works.

Other campgrounds remain open across East Gippsland

There are 4 campgrounds close to Cape Conran Coastal Park that will be open during the temporary closures in Banksia Bluff Campground:

  • Buchan Caves Reserve Campground
  • Corringle Foreshore Campground
  • Pettmans Beach Campground
  • New Thurra North Camping Area.

Bookings at these sites and all Parks Victoria bookable campsites are now open online for dates up to 31 August 2026.

You can book on our website.

More information

We received approval for the water project from the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) in September 2025. Construction of the water and wastewater infrastructure project is expected to start in May 2026 and be completed by summer 2026.

Safe and reliable water and wastewater infrastructure is essential to support new roofed accommodation, the office and activity centre, and long term visitor use at Cape Conran Coastal Park.

Very small waves are gently folding onto a flat almost white sandy beach. The beach shoreline has small edging of craggy rocks and grass growing on top. Above the sky is brilliant blue with a few distant puffy clouds on the horizon
