Days Picnic Ground

Macedon Regional Park

Days Picnic Ground is a spacious rest stop and picnic ground along the Macedon Ranges Walking Trail. For those who are ambitious, the Macedon Ranges Walking Trail will take you on an all day loop around Macedon Regional Park. Things to do

Two women look out at the scenery from Camel's Hump.

Camels Hump

The nearby Hanging Rock and this rocky outcrop are a mamelon - a volcanic feature formed six million years ago, when thick lava squeezed through a narrow vent in the earth’s crust. The highest peak in the range, Camels Hump at 1,011m offers superb views of Hanging Rock and the surrounding countryside.
Two women looking at the trees and reflections at Sanatorium Lake.

Sanatorium Lake

The cool climate of the Macedon region was thought to provide a perfect environment for patients suffering tuberculosis. In 1899 a sanatorium was opened in a building previously used as a private hospital. It closed in 1910. A lake was made to supply water to a new, larger sanatorium which was never built. Swimming and fishing is not permitted in the lake.
An orange tent sits beneath the trees in dappled sunlight.

Lalgambuk Camping Area

Nestled in the crater of an ancient volcano, this spacious camping area has toilets, picnic tables, fireplaces and shelter, and is suitable for tents, camper trailers, campervans, and caravans.

    Macedon Walking Trail Redirection

The Macedon Walking Trail is being redirected through Macedon Regional Park while the Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve is closed for works.

The redirection occurs on the Goat Track midway between Bawden Road and the Cross Reserve, with visitors invited onto Hoods Track. This will take visitors to Clyde and then Francis Tracks. Francis Track pops out at the Harbisons Picnic Area where visitors can rejoin the Macedon Walking Trail near the tearooms and continue on their journey. The redirection works in reverse to support both directions of uses and is signed.

The works will occur from late June to September. The Mount Macedon Memorial Cross Reserve Committee of Management and Parks Victoria apologise for any inconvenience.
