SHALLOW DEPTH & SHOALING AT ENTRANCE TO PATTERSON RIVER

A sandbar is developing at the entrance to Patterson River.

Mariners entering the port are advised to remain central to the channel when traversing the river entrance and to navigate with caution.

The sandbar has developed over the last few weeks under the influence of strong southerly winds that is mobilising sand from Carrum Beach and feeding the bar.

The sandbar extends in a northerly direction from the end of the southern rock groyne at the river entrance.

There may be shallow water and shoaling over the bar.

A hydrographic survey is being undertaken and will be on this page when available.

A Notice to Mariners is in force.  Please see attached.

Maintenance dredging will be conducted as soon as practicable.
