Wonnangatta Iconic 4WD track upgrades

The project

This project is being delivered on Gunaikurnai Country.

Nestled in the remote and picturesque Alpine National Park, Wonnangatta Valley offers a unique experience for 4-wheel drive enthusiasts and campers alike.

Parks Victoria is upgrading the Wonnangatta Valley Track to improve safety and maintain access for 4WD visitors. This will involve surface grading, resheeting, and reconstructing damaged sections of road throughout the Wonnangatta Valley.

Project funding

This project has been funded $846,000 from Victoria’s Great Outdoors. Victoria’s Great Outdoors is $106.6 million investment by the Victorian Government into better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.

Environment and cultural heritage management

An environmental review and assessment plan has been prepared to provide insights into the environmental values, potential impacts, and regulatory requirements relevant to the project.

Cultural heritage assessments have been partially completed, with a sectional Cultural Heritage Permit already obtained. Approvals for the remaining areas are currently in progress. Identified cultural values will be safeguarded through informed site planning and construction practices, ensuring the respectful management of Country throughout the project.
