High Country Iconic Campground upgrades

The project
This project is being delivered on Gunaikurnai and Taungurung Country.
Camping in the remote and beautiful Victorian High Country is an experience many people enjoy. Popular campgrounds across parks in the Alpine region of Victoria will receive upgrades. At Talbotville, a new toilet, fire pits and picnic tables will be installed. The Zeka Spur Track into the Wonnangatta Valley has been repaired, including a small landslip on the track.

Project funding
This project has been funded $998,000 from Victoria’s Great Outdoors.
Victoria’s Great Outdoors is $106.6 million investment by the Victorian Government into better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.

We are seeking key environmental permits and approvals. Cultural heritage is being assessed to ensure it is protected throughout the delivery of works.
Who are we working with?
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action, Gunaikurnai Land and Waters Aboriginal Corporation, and Taungurung Land and Waters Council.
Access changes
Talbotville Campground will remain open while upgrades are being done during May 2025. During construction some areas and facilities within the campground may be fenced off. Toilet facilities will be available at all times. Heavy machinery will be operating within the campground during daylight hours. Alternative campgrounds can be found along the Crooked River and at the Grant Township.
