Grampians Iconic 4WD experience upgrades

The project

This project is being delivered on the country of the Jardwadjali and Djab wurrung people.

The spectacular Grampians National Park offers a range of opportunities for those who love 4WDing, camping and bushwalking.

As part of this project, three sites popular with people 4WDing in the park are being upgraded - Red Rock Picnic Area, Strachans Campground and Ingleton Springs Picnic Area. Picnic facilities and track surfaces at each location will be improved.

Project benefits

Visitors

The upgrades will make it safer and easier for a wide range of people to enjoy the picnic areas on a popular 4WD route in the park.

Environment

Improved carparking and paths will help to protect vegetation by keeping people on designated paths and tracks and in the picnic area.

Project funding

This project has been funded with $610,000 from Victoria’s Great Outdoors.
Victoria’s Great Outdoors is $106.6 million investment by the Victorian Government into better campgrounds, walking trails, 4WD tracks and visitor facilities across Victoria’s parks and state forests.

Timeline

More information on the timeline for completion will be provided as the project progresses.

Environment and cultural heritage management

We are seeking key environmental permits and approvals. Cultural heritage is being assessed to ensure it is protected throughout the delivery of works.

Who are we working with?

Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action. Representatives of the three Traditional Owner groups associated with the Gariwerd National Park have all been engaged as part of the project planning and Cultural Heritage Management Plan.

Access changes

Each picnic area is expected to temporarily closed while work is underway but road access should not be impacted. Obey all signs and consider alternative picnic spots while work is underway. Check Grampians (Gariwerd) National Park page to stay up to date with temporary closures expected.
