Valve House & Wetlands (Lower Car Park Areas)
Parking
The main entrance to Yan Yean Reservoir Park is off Recreation Road. After entering the park, take the first road to the left below the dam wall. Immediately to the right is the first picnic area and old valve house. There are no designated disabled parking spaces in this car park. The surface is asphalt and it is level.

Picnic Area
The picnic area is grass and flat. There is a concrete floored picnic pavilion. The tables in the pavilion are the standard fixed side seating type with 9 inches of overhang at either end. The main barbecue area is on top of a rise in the park, approximately 10 meters higher than the surrounding area. The electric barbecues have a 95-centimeter working height, a large bench area of the same height and water. The barbecues are operated with a push button which requires finger dexterity. The taps are a twist type tape with a fluted handle. Grip is required to operate the taps. The whole area is on a level concrete platform. There is a toilet block in this area but it has no disabled facilities. The nearest accessible toilet facilities are at the other end of the park at the Caretakers Cottage picnic area.

Playground
The playground and larged grassed picnic and play areas are accessed via a large asphalt car park, which is level. There are no designated disabled parking bays at this car park and no toilet facilities. The playground does not have any accessible play features and is surrounded by a raised plastic edging. Picnic tables are the standard fixed side seating design. They are all on small concrete pads with insufficient room for wheelchair visitors to sit at the tables. There is an electric barbecue with a working height of 95 centimeter on a very small concrete pad.

Wetlands
Just beyond the wetlands is a final car park. There are no disabled parking places here and the picnic tables are the standard design on small concrete pads. There are large open and flat grassed areas that are accessed directly from the car park.

Caretakers Cottage Picnic Area (Upper Car Park Area)
This Caretakers Cottage and Upper Car Park are accessed by continuing past the end of the lower car park (past the overflow car park) and taking the left road up and around the roundabout. There is also direct access to the Upper Car Park via Reservoir Road which is gated (check the park page for closures).
Visitors should take the road to the left which will take them up around the Upper Car Park and Caretakers Cottage areas.
Parking
The large northern car park has three accessible parking spaces directly adjacent to the path leading to the toilet facilities. These spaces are all 2.4 meters in width and are asphalt and level. To the right of the spaces is an asphalt path that leads to the toilet block and picnic area. The path is level and is 1.5 meters in width. The toilet block is approximately 60 meters from the car park.

Toilet Facilities
The toilet block has one large unisex accessible cubicle. It is divided into two rooms. The outer room has an inward swinging door that is very light to open (its width is 80 centimeters wide). The handle is a round knob that would require finger dexterity and grip. The door has an internal lock that is a twist type with a wing type handle. Finger dexterity or strength is not required to operate the lock.
Upper Car Park toilet facilities
The toilet is inside a second room that has a sliding door (80 centimeters wide). It has a light action. The handle is a recessed type, and the door has a light sliding action. There is no lock on the internal door. The toilet has a seat height of 45 centimeters and is equipped with side and rear grab bars. It is an unusual design as it is free standing, and the only side support is the side grab bar. The flush buttons are located on the top of the cistern. They are a light action but would require finger dexterity to operate.
Accessible toilet
The hand basin (85 centimeters tall) is in the outer room. It has clear space underneath of 20 centimeters and no exposed hot water pipes. It is a twist type tap with a fluted handle that requires grip and strength to operate (90 centimeters tall).

This picnic area has great views over the Yan Yean reservoir.
The Upper Car Park picnic area views
There are two electric barbecues here with a working height of 850 millimetres. They are both on large concrete slabs that are level with the surrounding area. The barbecues are operated by a recessed small push button that requires finger dexterity. There is a picnic pavilion that contains four tables. These tables have fixed side seating with a 225 millimetre overhang. They do not allow wheelchair visitors to sit front facing. The pavilion has a concrete floor and is level. There are tables of a similar design on the grassed areas of this picnic area but most are on small concrete pads.
