Albert Park sports clubs will soon enjoy a green energy transformation taking place across the park.

A $1.6 million investment from the Victorian Government will see Parks Victoria install solar panels at a range of facilities used by some of the park’s diverse community sporting clubs.

By lowering emissions and reducing the local carbon footprint, the project marks an important step in sustainability at one of Melbourne’s most-loved parks.

These works also provide eligible clubs the opportunity to save on utility bills – helping to put money back in their pockets.

Just outside of Melbourne’s city centre, Albert Park is home to around 40 local sporting clubs, with a diverse range of teams making use of its pavilions, club houses and 20 sports fields.

The project is just another significant upgrade the community can enjoy, with the park also recently receiving a new shared-use sporting pavilion at Oval One and expansions to the David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilion.

Engineers are currently assessing which of the park’s buildings and ovals are suitable for sustainable energy works. Subject to on-ground conditions, installation of solar panels will commence in 2024.
