Become a Junior Ranger these school holidays

Wednesday 11 December, 2019

Parks Victoria invites children and their families to disconnect from devices and get into nature by joining a free Junior Ranger activity during the school holidays.

Hosted by a Parks Victoria ranger, Junior Rangers offers place-based activities for children aged 6 to 12 years, with their families. It is designed to give kids a healthy nature fix, inspire curiosity and share stories about our wonderful native plants, wildlife and amazing natural and cultural values.

Kids and their families can watch tiny critters through microscopes on a Minibeast Discovery, follow clues to discover animals in the bush as a Wildlife Detective, or find out what lies beneath the water in a Rockpool Ramble.

Junior Rangers get their hands dirty playing games, creating masterpieces, exploring streams, catching bugs and rummaging around the beach or bush. They may even visit some secret places that few park visitors ever see!

“The Junior Ranger program is a great way to get families outdoors and having fun in nature together. The variety of activities we run through the Junior Ranger program help teach kids about the natural world around them,’ said James, Parks Victoria Education and Interpretation Officer.

“It’s wonderful to see kids getting out of the lounge room and exploring our beautiful parks. We know that nature is essential for human health and wellbeing, and everyone should have the opportunity to connect with nature, especially children.”

“Spending time playing and learning outdoors provides children with developmental benefits such as improved physical and mental health and social connections. All the activities are designed to inspire curiosity,” said James.

Ranger Hannah loves being involved in the program, inspiring tomorrow’s leaders today. “Junior Rangers are leading the way with fun, inspiring ways of thinking and will create our next David Attenborough and Jane Goodall.”

All Junior Rangers activities are free and children must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all sessions. Bookings are essential and open just prior to school holidays. Don’t miss out on your family’s free spot – visit the Junior Rangers website and subscribe for updates.

The Junior Rangers program is free and proudly supported by our Principal Partner Macpac, encouraging the next generation of nature lovers.
