A better visitor experience for 18 urban parks

Monday 28 November, 2022

Melburnians are set to enjoy a better visitor experience at some of their favourite parks, with Ace Infrastructure, a division of Ace Contractors Group, appointed to construct new and improved facilities at 18 popular parks across Melbourne.

The works will see improvements to parks spanning from Point Cook to the Mornington Peninsula, and include upgrades such as new and refurbished barbecues, picnic tables, toilets, signage, pathways and playgrounds.

Melbourne’s network of regional and national parks is where millions of people come to play, socialise and enjoy the benefits of being in nature. These places also contain areas of significant cultural and environmental values, and provide important habitat for native plants and animals.

These upgrades, which are being delivered as part of the Victorian Government’s $21 million Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program, will provide people with more opportunities to connect with nature within an urban setting, and support the health and wellbeing of local communities and landscapes.

Set to receive this next stage of upgrades are: Yarra Bend Park; Brimbank Park; Jells Park; Point Cook Coastal Park; Banksia Park; Birrurung Park; Westerfolds Park; Albert Park; Braeside Park, Karkarook Park; Maroondah, Silvan, Cardinia, Greenvale and Yan Yean Reservoir Parks, and Mornington Peninsula, Dandenong Ranges and Organ Pipes national parks.

As part of this program, a missing link in the Bay Trail will also be constructed between Williamstown and Point Cook Coastal Park, and the Point Gellibrand seawall will be repaired.

Subject to on-ground and construction industry conditions, works are expected to commence in early 2023.
