Mount Skene Natural Features and Scenic Reserve
Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve is located on Taungurung Country amongst tall stands of Alpine Ash, Snowgum woodlands and sub-alpine heathlands. The Reserve is a hidden gem, boasting scenic views of the stunning peaks of the surrounding Victorian Alps. Standing tall at 1570m above sea level Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve typically experiences regular snowfall between June and October, however it is not unsual for it to occur at anytime. Mount Skene is a breathtaking sight throughout winter, meander through snow blanketed heathlands or admire snowgums laden with snow and ice.
The Reserve provides the opportunity for a range of recreational activities, including hunting, bushwalking, four wheel driving and basic camping. Enjoy a picnic at one of Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve’s secluded day visitor areas, or simply take a drive across the top, admiring breathtaking views.
Please ensure you take all your rubbish home as there are no bins nor toilets located within the Reserve. Be aware, visitors are unable to access Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve by vehicle from the Thursday after Kings birthday weekend to the Thursday before Melbourne Cup Day unless carrying a permit. How to get there
Mount Skene Natural Features and Scenic Reserve
Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve is located just 135kms northeast of Melbourne CBD (approx. 4 hours’ drive). The drive will take you through the Dandenong’s to Moe, and finally Licola, before taking the Jamison-Licola Road (unsealed road) into Mount Skene Natural Features Scenic Reserve.
Be prepared as it can be rocky and slippery in places so drive to the conditions. Call the local Parks Victoria office or check the website to gain an understanding of track conditions prior to undertaking your trip.
