Originally a small town constructed for the workers who built the dam, the spacious Upper Yarra Reservoir Park has everything you need for a relaxing, back-to-nature camping holiday.
Suitable for a gathering of family and friends, the camping area has no formal sites. Simply pick a grassy spot and pitch a tent surrounded by eucalypt bushland with easy access to fireplaces, gas and wood-fired barbecues, a rotunda, toilets and picnic tables.
The camping area is a great launching point to explore the Upper Yarra Reservoir Park.
Explore the delightful short walks and breath-taking lookouts over and around the reservoir, keeping an eye out for Swamp Wallabies, wombats, fish and kookaburras among the native eucalypts, grevilleas and banksias. Cool your feet in the Yarra River, follow the river to the secluded Batts Creek Point, or go on a self-guided walk on the Fern Gully Track as it loops through tall eucalypt forest with a dense and sheltered ferny understorey. Visit the Dam Wall Lookout, or take a stroll along the Brimbonga Walking Track to the viewing platform and watch the water flow from the Reservoir through the outlet basin as it begins its journey to Melbourne
Near the picnic grounds, see the historic McVeigh's Water Wheel that was used to supply power to Contention gold mine and McVeigh's Hotel.
When the sun goes down, grab your torch and spot the many nocturnal animals who call the park home. Glimpse Greater Gliders, Sugar Gliders, possums, bats and owls on their night time adventures.
