Balley Hooley Campground will be closed until November 30th for campground maintenance, facilities upgrades and road works.
Due to the volume of construction works and the access along Balley Hooley road, Balley Hooley Road will be closed from the intersection of Basin Creek and Balley Hooley roads for safety of heavy vehicles and other road users.
Parks Victoria works in partnership with Four Wheel Drive Victoria to ensure tracks are available for visitors to safely access remote locations in our parks through the year. To ensure tracks are available during the warmer months of the year, many roads and tracks are seasonally closed to vehicles to prevent damage to the tracks and to maintain water quality in sensitive environments during the wetter months.
Seasonal closures apply within Snowy River National Park from Wednesday 12/06/2024 to Wednesday 30/10/2024.
The tracks within the Snowy River National Park affected by seasonal closures are as follows:

The steep section of the Deddick Trail between Moonkan Track and Mountain Creek which is known as the Mt Joan Staircase is in very poor condition with very deep rutting and erosion trenches. This section of track has been deemed unsafe to drive and will remain closed to the public until further notice.
This section of the Deddick Trail will be closed from the intersection with Rich Knob Track to the ford crossing at Mountain Creek.
The small, dispersed camping area on Deddick Trail at Mountain Creek will remain open but will only be accessible from the northern side. No thoroughfare will be possible beyond Mountain Creek.
A through route between McKillops Bridge and Yalmy Rd will be open along the Snowy Icon 4WD route via Deddick Trail, Bowen Track, Bowen Link Track, Monkeytop Track and Waratah Flat Rd. However, sections of this track network have deteriorated to the point where this route should be considered DOUBLE BLACK difficulty. Sections of the track network will be very difficult in dry weather and should only be attempted by experienced drivers travelling in groups with high clearance, dual range 4WD vehicles carrying recovery equipment.

Toilet and picnic facilities at Raymond Creek Falls Campground were recently vandalised. Parks Victoria staff are working to repair and replace the damaged facilities. Toilet facilities remain open but may not offer the desired level of privacy for some visitors. Day visitors and campers should also carry sufficient water for their needs.
For the duration of campground renovation works at Balley Hooley a parking area has been set up for paddlers requiring egress from the Snowy River.
Trucks and construction equipment will be traversing Balley Hooley road and within the campground.
While traveling between Basin Creek Falls track and Balley Hooley Track, contractors will be on UHF 28.
Balley Hooley Road is narrow with blind corners and limited passing opportunities.
All parked vehicles must be;
- parked within the centre turning circle or on the verge between the turning circle and Buchan river (marked green areas on the attached map and signs onsite).
- not impacting / blocking traffic or construction works.
Parking is at your own risk.
The campground is closed and there is no camping or toilet facilities available at Balley Hooley. There is no access to the area as marked in red on attached map).
