Borella Walk (MT COLE/BEERIPMO STATE FOREST, Ben Nevis Nature Reserve)
The walk can be completed as a 5 km one-way route between Ben Nevis Picnic Area and Chinamans Campground, or as a return walk by retracing your steps. Allow about 3 hours one way. This Grade 3 walk includes several steep sections and some bushwalking experience is recommended. Along the way, there are opportunities to enjoy forest scenery, listen for native birds and take in panoramic views from the summit of Ben Nevis. A memorial near the summit commemorates the 1942 RAAF Avro Anson aircraft crash.
Ben Nevis Picnic Area provides picnic tables, a drop toilet and access to scenic viewpoints. Toilets are available at nearby Chinamans Campground for walkers extending their visit. Dogs are not permitted on Borella Walk as it crosses into Ben Nevis Nature Reserve. Drinking water is not available, so carry all the water you need. There are no rubbish bins, so please take all rubbish home. Campfires are only allowed in designated fireplaces where provided and when restrictions are not in place.
