Cypress Picnic Area (Greenvale Reservoir Park)

Located off Somerton Road Greenvale, the Cypress picnic area has two large, flat, grassed areas on both sides of the carpark popular with large groups for picnics and games.
These areas have numerous picnic tables, two pavilions and good views over the reservoir. The pavilions have level, gravel floors and standard wooden picnic tables with bench seats. There are two barbecue areas that each have two barbecues.
Water is available at the barbecue area.
Trails wind through the park, offering glimpses of native birdlife and views of the water.

Change of Conditions

Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. It’s a good idea to check this page ahead of your visit for any updates.

Southern section of park closed

The southern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park is closed, including the Cypress and Brodies Lakes Picnic Areas.

Greenvale Reservoir Park was closed to the public to enable Melbourne Water to undertake extensive remodeling of the reservoir and dam wall. As a result of these works, there is less public park land available and some parts of the park are not safe for visitors to access.

Parks Victoria recommends visiting the Woodlands Historic Homestead as an alternative for visitors who wish to spend the day out at a park where there is parking, toilets, BBQ facilities and more.

Northern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park now open

Pedestrians can now access the northern section of Greenvale Reservoir Park through two entrance gates along Venezia Promenade. One is across the road from San Pietro Way and one is across the road from Vidos Road.

This part of the park is open seven days a week, 9 am to 8 pm. We’re expecting to increase opening hours to 24-hour access in early 2022.

If you’ve visited Greenvale Reservoir Park in the past, you’ll notice the public park land is now a much smaller pocket park and will look different to how you may remember it.

While this is an important first step in reopening the northern section of the park for local pedestrians, carparking and other visitor amenities are not currently available.
