Birrarung Marr Floating Landing temporary closure for Greenline boardwalk works

The Birrarung Marr Floating Landing on the Yarra River is temporarily closed to vessel and pedestrian access due to adjacent bank works associated with the Greenline project. 

Works are due to continue until December 2025 and the landing will reopen once completed.

Herring Island free punt service 2026

The free public Punt service to Herring Island Environmental Sculpture Park will begin on Saturday 3 January 2026 and will end on Easter Monday 6 April 2026.  Parks Victoria only operates this service on weekends and public holidays ( Australia Day, Labour Day, Good Friday, Holy Saturday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday) and any midweek access to the island needs to be organised via other vessel providers.
 
Operating times will be: 11am to 5pm sharp. (No service from 12:30 - 1:00pm). Running  approximately every 15 minutes.
 
- Please note the first Punt at 11am will be from Como Landing and last Punt service leaving the Island will be at 5pm.
- Please be patient as delays getting to and from the island may occur
- Maximum of 12 passengers per trip 
 
Como Landing can be accessed from a path that runs down to the river from the Main Yarra Trail, Alexander Avenue, South Yarra (just down from café Kanteen).
 
In the event of extreme weather conditions, Parks Victoria may cancel the punt operation and stop access to Herring Island.

Other conditions to watch for:
 
  • Snakes are present on the island, please keep a watch out.
  • The paths are uneven gravel surfaces, some with swale drains which can make it difficult to traverse.
  • Please take your rubbish home with you.
