Friends Track (Warby-Ovens National Park)

This self-guided walk starts and ends at Wenhams Camp, with the opportunity of a diversion to Kwat Kwat Lookout via the Peregrine Track (1km return) for excellent views of the Ovens Valley and the Victorian Alps.

The 4.6km Grade 3 loop passes a stand of iconic Grasstrees and through granite hills and forest rich in birdlife and wildflowers in spring. Allow 2 hours.

Mountain bikes are permitted on this track. Cyclists must always give way to walkers and must not ride off the track.

Visitor Tips: The track is hilly in places and a reasonable level of fitness is required. It is a great family walk but not suitable for prams. Wear sturdy footwear and carry plenty of water, especially in hot weather.

Areas temporarily closed due to inundation

Due to inundation, the following tracks within the Warby Ovens National Park are temporarily closed. 
 
Hills Track, Wilsons Track, Boundary track, Frosts Crossing Track, Ovens Track, Nicklaus Track, Yellow Creek Track, Cameron's Track, South Track, McLaughlin's Track, Robinsons Bend Track and McQuade's Bend Track. Parks Victoria will monitor river heights & track conditions and reopen tracks once it is safe to do so.
 
Floodwater is impacting access tracks, making them impassable to all vehicle types. 
Stay informed - monitor your local conditions and remain alert.
  • Parks Victoria has closed some park access gates due to the rising river levels. These closures are in place for your safety.
  • Do not drive through floodwater or around road closure signs.
  • Avoid walking through flooded areas.
  • Boating in floodwaters is dangerous due to debris, submerged trees and other hidden dangers. 
  • Stay up-to-date with any warnings issued by downloading the VicEmergency app and establishing a personal watch zone for your local area or the area you are travelling to. Updated forecasts are also available on the Bureau of Meteorology website at bom.gov.au.
  • Local flood guides are also available at ses.vic.gov.au to aid preparation
