Gabo Island Light station is situated just off the coast of the Croajingolong National Park east of Mallacoota. It sits amongst the distinctive pink granite rocks on the south end of the Island offering magnificent ocean views. Rich in cultural history the Island features the only operating Island lighthouse in Victoria. Constructed from 1858 to 1862 using the pink granite found on the island, the 47 metre high Gabo Island Lighthouse is the second tallest lighthouse in Australia.
The Lighthouse offers a unique accommodation experience in the Assistant Keepers Residence. The residence features three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry and bathroom with all line provided and can sleep up to 8 people with a minimum 2-night stay.
Day visitors are welcome to the visit the Lighthouse. Lighthouse tours are included for overnight guests, whilst day visitors must book lighthouse tours with a licenced tour operator. A toilet is provided for day visitors.
Access to the Island is by private boat or aircraft. Fess only apply for overnight guests.
Visitor Tips:
There is limited phone reception and no internet access in the guest accommodation. Access to the Island is sometimes restricted due to weather conditions, it is recommended that guests take extra food and medication supplies.

Gabo Island accommodation

Parks Victoria is delivering a maintenance program for visitor accommodation on Gabo Island. Work will be undertaken to update electrical wiring, plumbing, masonry, and other general repairs. Accommodation will be closed while the work is completed and is expected to reopen in 2024.

Day visitors can access the island during this time but must adhere to all safety and directional signage.

The accommodation update will be undertaken in consultation with heritage experts and delivered with consideration of all the environmental and cultural heritage sensitivities of this unique site.
