Get away from the bustling main campsites of Kooyoora State Park and stop in at the Glenalbyn Camping Area. Nestled in Victoria’s beautiful box-iron bark country the site provides a good base for self-sufficient campers to explore Kooyoora State Park or nearby Mt Korong Nature Conservation Reserve. The area has abundant wildlife, particularly bird life. A small dam is adjacent to the site providing water for birdlife and other animals, the site comes alive early morning and around dusk. The area is best viewed in late winter when it’s ablaze with golden wattle, followed by the dazzling array of spring wildflowers. The site has several woodfired BBQs and picnic tables. The site doesn’t have toilets, the nearest toilets are located at the Kooyoora campground.

Access is via formed gravel rd and can be traversed with a 2wd, for those wishing to explore deeper into the park a 4wd is advised. Bring your own firewood and all the water you need. The dam water is not suitable for drinking. There are no bins. Store food and waste securely, to avoid attracting animals. Strain dishwater and add the waste to your rubbish. Take all rubbish away for recycling or disposal.

The area is prone to Bushfires in warmer months. Bushfire safety is a personal responsibility. Check the forecast fire danger before leaving home. Consider not visiting forest or bushland on stormy days or days of high bushfire risk.

This area is a heavily mined landscape. Walkers should remain on marked paths to avoid ongoing hazards, including uneven ground, dams, unstable slopes and mineshafts. Mine tailings may contain the toxic residue of arsenic, mercury, and cyanide but pose minimal risk if not disturbed. Please comply with local signage and do not climb cliffs, over or around barriers and fencing, or enter old mine workings. If you wish to safely explore mining relics away from the formed tracks, we recommend hiring an experienced guide. Prospecting is permitted in certain areas, please review prospecting maps before starting. Prospectors must have a valid mining right.
