Temporary Bridge Closure – Beenak Road, Kurth Kiln Regional Park

Parks Victoria advises that the bridge on Beenak Road within the Day Visitor Area of Kurth Kiln Heritage Area is currently closed for safety reasons. While planning to replace the bridge is well underway, at this stage there is no date set for its replacement.


Park visitors and local residents are advised to use Soldiers Road, off Gembrook-Launching Place Road, or Beenak Road off Gembrook-Launching Place Road, to access the Kurth Kiln Picnic and Camping Areas.

Deer Control in Bunyip State Park and Kurth Kiln Regional Park.

Areas of Bunyip State Park and Kurth Kiln Regional Park closed for deer control operations
Areas of Bunyip State Park and Kurth Kiln Regional Park will be closed from dusk (4:00pm), until dawn (7.00am) between the following dates, the 8th of December 2025 to the 15th of May 2026.
 
These closures are for ground shooting operations controlling introduced deer species. Signs will be displayed at all official entrance points to the control zones during the control operation.

All camping grounds/visitor areas will be closed when the control activities are underway.

Nash Creek Camping Ground
Freemans Mill Camping Area
Dyers Camping and Picnic Ground
Mortimer Camping and Picnic Area
Lawson Falls Picnic Ground 
Forest Road Unloading Area
Cannibal Creek Horse Unloading Area
Helmet Track Unloading Area
 
Parks Victoria is responsible for conservation management to restore and protect park habitat, including the control of introduced plant and animal species.
 
This program will:
 • Reduce habitat structure damage and minimise browsing impacts on habitat regeneration
• Focus on movement corridors that aim to reduce the impact of deer grazing on surrounding private land
 
For your own safety please observe the signage during this time and do not enter any closed areas.

Upcoming Campsite Rehabilitation

Site 17 and 18 on Scout Loop Track, Kurth Kiln Regional Park will be closed for rehabilitation over the coming weeks. This work is to protect water ways and enhance camping and visitor opportunities elsewhere within Kurth Kiln Regional Park. This work will be completed in November, after Melbourne Cup long weekend.

Kurth Kiln Regional Park Deer Control

  
Parks Victoria are continuing deer control in Kurth Kiln Regional Park. This program recommencing on Monday 8th of December 2025. 
  
Control is being undertaken by accredited and authorised contractors, Victorian Pest Animal Control (VPAC). These activities are done in accordance with an Authority to Control Wildlife permit issued by the Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action (DEECA).  
  
Upcoming control nights are as follows, from 4pm to 7am on Monday 8th December to Friday 12th of December.
 
   
You may observe signage at gates indicating dates of the upcoming control program. 
While our contractors use authorised suppressors, deer legal rifles will still emit noise, which may be heard in the area.
