Little River Walk (Cathedral Range State Park)

Follow the appropriately named Little River through tall messmate forest on this gentle walk. Listen for lyrebirds imitating the sounds of the bush and look for koalas snoozing overhead or feasting on the leaves of Manna Gums.

This is an easy Grade 3 walk of 2.7km which takes around 45 minutes one-way. The walks links Cooks Mill with Neds Gully Camping Area. Stop at Cooks Mill for a picnic or to explore to see remnants of a once-thriving timber mill that produced ships’ masts.

Restrictions: Please note this trail is for walkers only (no bicycles, pets or horses).

No bins or drinking water are provided. Please take your rubbish home for recycling or disposal and bring drinking water with you. Water from the creeks is not safe to drink and should be chemically treated or boiled for 20 minutes.

The area is heavily forested and we do not recommend riding on days of higher fire danger or when storms or strong winds are forecast. The Park is in the Central Fire District.

Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. It’s a good idea to check this page ahead of your visit for any updates.

Weekday road closures - Cerberus Road

Cerberus Road will be fully closed to all users, Monday to Friday during daylight hours, between 16/7/26 - 31/7/26.
Maintenance work involving heavy machinery will be operating on the road during these times; however work may pause  if weather is particularly bad.

There will be no access via Cerberus Road to Jawbone Carpark, and there will be no access via Cerberus Road to Sugarloaf Saddle Carpark, to any users including walkers. Walkers will need to change their plans during the weekday closures to avoid routes that use Cerberus Road.

Little River Road - Changing conditons

The Little River is prone to flooding after heavy rainfall, this can effect the northern end of Little River Road. This is a dynamic situation and road conditions can change quickly.

Caution is advised if driving along Little River road. Please be aware of changing road conditions and if present do not enter flood water.
