Murray River 693km Camping Area (Murray - Sunset National Park)

The Murray River 693km Camping Area is located on Lindsay Island and perfect for exploring the Murray River by boat, canoe or kayak, fishing for Murray Cod or birdwatching. Access is by 4WD in dry weather only. No fees or bookings are required.

Visitor Tips: This is a remote area with no mobile reception. Campers must be self-sufficient and carry all the water and provisions they need. Please practise minimal impact camping and observe relevant fire regulations. Fires are permitted only where fireplaces are provided and must be extinguished with water before leaving. Please bring your own firewood or a gas or electric stove or barbecue.

Campsites should be at least 20m from the river. Avoid camping under or close to large trees like River Red Gums, as branches may fall at any time and swing away from the tree. Chemical toilets are preferred. Pit toilets must be at least 100m from the water’s edge. Bury toilet paper and waste appropriately. 2022/23 Flood Damage

Wallpolla Islands is closed due to riverine flood damage from the 2022/23 event. Impacts affecting both access and visitor safety are still present and are being worked on as part of recovery efforts. Timeframes for re-opening to the public are still unknown at this time.

Pest Animal Control Program - Southern Murray Sunset N.P

A pest animal control program will be conducted in Southern Murray Sunset National Park from Friday 11 October to Sunday 13 October 2024. Impacted areas include the Pink Lakes, including Lake Crosbie, Lake Becking, Mt Crozier and Mopoke campgrounds.

The Park will remain open while this program is being conducted.
