Wader Walk (Serendip Sanctuary)

Take this walk for a quieter view of both lakes and to spend some time in a 'wilder' setting. Sit awhile at the Wader bird hide watching their antics. This walk is very different as it is removed from the areas closer to the picnic area and animal enclosures. The return walk is 3km and takes 1 hour.

Assistance dogs are welcome in Parks Victoria parks and reserves. Entry requirements apply for parks and reserves that are usually dog prohibited, such as national parks.

Construction work at Serendip Sanctuary

Construction works are scheduled to continue until mid-August, and there will be disruptions to visitor experiences throughout this period as some sections of the park may be closed. We appreciate your patience and understanding during this time.


  • Serendip Sanctuary will be closed to visitors on Tuesday 21 July, this will allow for the construction of a new front entrance to the Sanctuary
  • The new carpark, picnic area and main entrance works are in progress with traffic management, please be aware that there is limited car parking.
  • Currently there no capacity for large buses or coach parking
  • The picnic area is currently closed; however temporary toilets will be available. BBQ and picnic facilities are also available nearby at You Yangs Regional Park. 
  • The Nature (Wildlife) walk is also closed due to upgrades
 
 Please note that the Sensory Garden remains open and entry and exit to the rest of Serendip will be via the Sensory Garden only. The sanctuary will continue to operate from 8am-4pm (except for the park closure on Tuesday July 21). 
 
As works progress there will be further impacts to the rest of the park, please check regularly for updates
