The project
The Dja Dja Wurrung Camping Village called Larni Yirrip (Home of the Ironbarks) is a new campground being created in Bendigo Regional Park.
This project is being delivered on Dja Dja Wurrung country by DJAARA (Dja Dja Wurrung Clans Aboriginal Corporation).
This is new camping area will offer people the chance to enjoy Dja Dja Wurrung culture and the Box Ironbark forest immediately adjacent to Bendigo and near the No. 7 and Crusoe Reservoir, which is popular for swimming and walking.
The new camping area will include defined camping areas, toilet and picnic facilities, two shelters, frog ponds, landscaping, signage, improved vehicle and pedestrian access and fencing to protect sensitive vegetation.
These upgrades will help protect the significant cultural heritage and environment of this special site.
Project benefits
Visitors
The upgrades will make it safer and easier for a wide range of people to enjoy a new campground in Box Ironbark forest.

These works will help ensure that Dja Dja Wurrung cultural heritage and values are protected. Upgraded facilities and protections will improve opportunities for the Aboriginal community to practice culture and connect to Country and for all visitors to experience Dja Dja Wurrung culture.
Environment
Improved roads, carparking, walking tracks and defined camping areas will help ensure vehicles and people stay on the roads, tracks and defined areas to protect surrounding vegetation.

Environment and cultural heritage management
The Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action has granted key environmental permits and approvals. DJAARA is assessing the cultural heritage on site and will ensure it is protected throughout the delivery of works.
