Point Nepean Master Plan Implementation

Work on delivering key actions from the Point Nepean Master Plan (2017) is well underway. Improved visitor facilities opened in 2020 and works are continuing this year with an interpretation project and new camping area. 

The project includes:

1. Upgrade of Defence Road to Fort Nepean. This project delivered improved visitor safety and enabled bicycle access to Fort Nepean. Works completed 2018
2. New visitor facilities at the Quarantine Station including seating, picnic and BBQ facilities with shelters and drinking water fountains. Works completed 2020
3. An uplift of the Quarantine Station disinfecting complex and park-wide interpretation and storytelling. Underway - Completion due December 2021
4. A new pre-pitched tent camping experience at the Quarantine Station. The camping experience will consist of pre-pitched tents on platforms on the lawn outside the Quarantine Station, and will be especially designed for people new to camping. The experience will be designed for short stay camping. Works commence 2021. Stage 1 works complete -  Mid 2022

Latest news

June 2021.

Permits and works to deliver the campground stage of the Master Plan are now underway. Stage one of the camping project will be to establish a coastal campground at Burgess Park (foreshore lawn area) and the redevelopment of the Isolation Hospital as an amenities building. Camping area site map (PDF)

Point Nepean Research and Education Field Station Project

A proposed field station, to be based in the national park, would be jointly established by Monash University and the University of Melbourne. It would be an interdisciplinary science research and education facility focused on coastal environments, climate change, history and culture, the arts and community engagement.  
To support the planning of the proposed research and education field station at Point Nepean National Park, site investigation works are being undertaken in Point Nepean National Park Quarantine Station site begining Tuesday 29 June 2021.
