Home to more than 40 clubs, with 6,000 members, across 16 different land and water sports – Melbourne’s Albert Park is a hub for the local area’s growing community sports clubs. We’re delivering a range of projects across the park to improve facilities for the local community.
Altona Pier has been redeveloped during 2023-4, providing an improved recreational space for more people to enjoy for many years to come. The new pier is now open for visitors to enjoy.
Cement Creek Redwood Forest facility upgrades
Parks Victoria and Melbourne Water are working together to deliver improved visitor facilities at the Redwoods Forest to support increased visitation at the site while protecting the natural values of the park.
Corben Oval electrical and pavilion upgrades
We have a project underway to upgrade the Corben Pavilion and install a new power connection down Yarra Bend Road and up to the Corben Pavilion, which will bring life back to the facilities for visitors and sports users.
Dandenong Ranges National Park Grants picnic ground upgrades
Grants Picnic Ground is a popular picnic location in Dandenong Ranges National Park on the edge of the beautiful Sherbrooke Forest. The Margaret Lester walking track is being upgraded to provide an all abilities accessible walking experience. Once complete, the track will be a Grade 1 walk, suitable for visitors with prams, wheelchairs or limited mobility, to enjoy the forest.
Dandenong Police Paddocks Reserve Master Plan
We’re leading the development of a Master Plan to guide the park into the future. While this is underway, we’ll also be delivering some immediate works to improve the reserve’s safety, access, and connection for visitors as a priority. This includes trail maintenance, new wayfinding signage and installing access control barriers at the entry of the park to discourage rubbish dumping and illegal vehicle access.
Deep Rock Pavilion in Yarra Bend Park is receiving upgrades, with plans to deliver more modern, accessible, and female-friendly facilities.
Parks Victoria is rebuilding the popular Dromana Pier to ensure the community and visitors have a safe and accessible maritime facility.
Eastern Track at galada tamboore
A new track has been built in the galada tamboore floodplain in marram baba Merri Creek Regional Parklands, to provide access for maintenance vehicles and visitors.
Fishermans Jetty Rebuild Project
With funding from the Victorian Government, Fishermans Jetty is in line for replacement. This project will rebuild and reopen the popular jetty to improve boating facilities at Mornington Harbour.
Flinders Ocean Beach Car Park and Track Project
In 2020, following a major rain event a significant landslide occurred below the Flinders Ocean Beach visitor car park near the King Street Beach Access walking track – causing a large section of the car park to collapse and the steep slope continues to be unstable. To ensure the safety of visitors, we're decommissioning the car park. We'll also upgrade and realign the beach access track to help reopen the walking track to the community and keep it safe for many years to come.
Critical safety works are being planned for Flinders Pier using funding from the 2022-23 State Budget.
Gipps Street Elevated Path project
Parks Victoria is replacing the steep steps at Gipps Street with an elevated walkway to improve how cyclists, people with prams and people with accessibility requirements can enjoy the Main Yarra Trail.

Herring Island Future Planning Project

Mornington Harbour Local Port Area Plan
Planning is underway to ensure Mornington Harbour is well placed to provide safe facilities for years to come, through the development of the Mornington Harbour Local Port Area Plan and rebuild of the much loved Fishermans Jetty.
ngarrak nakorang wilam park is being created in Melbourne’s east from more than 35 hectares of former freeway reserve.
The Olinda Precinct Plan is delivering an accessible playscape, new and upgraded sporting and visitor facilities and the awe-inspiring Chelsea Australian Garden at Olinda, to transform the site of the former Olinda Golf Course into 34 hectares of community parklands.
O'Shannassy Aqueduct Trail Dee Slip Bridge Project
Parks Victoria are currently assessing options for the damaged Dee Slip Bridge on the O'Shannassy Aqueduct Trail.
A project is underway at Plenty Gorge Park to deliver the new Plenty River Trail, upgrades to Hawkstowe Picnic Area and improvements to Nioka Bush Camp.
An investment of $1.5 million will fund a range of projects in the Point Cook Homestead precinct. These works will refurbish and maintain some of the heritage buildings on site, and a new toilet facility will be built.
Point Nepean National Park Projects
We're building a new campground, delivering important conservation works to the Fort, and enhancing the story-telling and interpretation signage and experiences at Point Nepean National Park.
Rhyll Local Port Area Plan Project
Planning is underway to ensure Rhyll Jetty and the adjoining waters are well placed to provide safe facilities for years to come through the development of the Rhyll Local Port Area Plan.
We're working to reconstruct Rye Pier to make it safer, more durable and more accessible and have delivered a new pier approach. In 2024 we're working to finalise this major project.
Sorrento Local Port Area Plan Project
Planning is underway to ensure Sorrento Pier and the adjoining waters are well placed to provide safe facilities for years to come through the development of the Sorrento Local Port Area Plan.
A $53 million investment to rebuild the St Kilda Pier will give locals and visitors better public open space and better swimming spots, while preserving the historic kiosk. A new curved pier will replace the current pier, with new features that will boost tourism and preserve it for future generations to enjoy.
St Leonards Pier Rebuild and Local Port Area Plan
Planning is underway to ensure St Leonards Pier and the adjoining waters are well placed to provide safe facilities for years to come through the pier rebuild project and development of a Local Port Area Plan.
A new 120-hectare regional park will be created in Clyde, on Bunurong Country. The land will be transformed to provide important habitat for plants and wildlife, and create more opportunities for the community to spend time with friends and family, unlock the benefits of time spent in nature, and make the most of our beautiful open green spaces.
A new 215-hectare regional park will be created in Deanside, on Wurundjeri Country. It will provide new opportunities for the community to get active, spend time with friends and family and connect to our beautiful parklands and waterways. It will also help protect the Natural Temperate Grasslands and provide important habitat for the Growling Grass Frog.
Werribee Township Regional Park
A new 340-hectare regional park will be created in Wyndham Vale and Tarniet, on Wadawurrung Country and Bunurong Country. It will provide new opportunities for the community to get active, spend time with friends and family and connect to our beautiful parklands and the Werribee River.
Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program
The Urban Parks Active Wellbeing Program is a $21 million project delivering upgrades to 21 popular parks across Melbourne, including extending the Bay Trail at Point Cook, and repairing the seawall at Point Gellibrand Coastal Heritage Park.
Planning is underway to rebuild the Warneet jetties with investment from the Victorian Government.
We have built a new all-abilities playscape, a 3.25 km running and walking track and upgraded the picnic area at Wattle Park. Further upgrades planned include replacing the vandalised heritage trams and creating a ceremonial space.
Williamstown - Local Port Area Plan
