Celebrating Parks Victoria and Scouts Victoria

Wednesday 3 August, 2022

Have you heard – Parks Victoria and Scouts Victoria are now official partners!

Parks Victoria Rangers and Scouts Victoria’s Joey Scouts have begun exploring local parks together. They have been learning all about the local plants and animals, and what it takes to manage a park. They have been learning to be a ‘Joey Ranger’!

Scouts Victoria encourages children to develop a deeper understanding of the world around them by learning the basics of leadership in protecting nature, citizen science, community service and outdoor adventure skills, while immersed in the beautiful bush.

Each Wednesday for six weeks, the Joey Rangers met at Lysterfield Park on Bunurong Country and Wurundjeri Country, a huge natural reserve full of iconic native wildlife. Activities included a wildlife encounter, minibeast discovery, bushwalking, cooking, canoeing, first aid and even bushfire safety.

The first six-week program booked out quickly, with 30 Joey Scouts attending with their parents and caretakers. After such success of the pilot program, we hope to announce more Joey Rangers programs soon!

Parks Victoria and Scouts Victoria are inspiring young people to explore Victoria’s precious environment to better understand the value in protecting our remarkable biodiversity for the future. Thank you to the Department of Environment, Water and Planning for generously supporting this partnership.

Become a Junior Ranger with Parks Victoria

If you have a little nature-loving joey who can’t wait until a future Scouts Victoria Joey Rangers program is offered, Parks Victoria’s free Junior Rangers school holiday programs might be for you.

Junior Rangers is not a club. No membership is needed for families to take part, get curious, explore and learn about our parks, wildlife and cultural heritage – with a real Park Ranger!

Our Parks Victoria's Rangers are busily preparing the spring program, bookings open just prior to school holidays. Don’t miss out on your family’s free spot – visit the Junior Rangers website and subscribe for updates.

While you’re there, be sure to check out the Junior Rangers blog to learn about what’s growing, swimming, crawling, flapping and scratching around Victoria’s parks. There’s also cool tips and tricks on what park ranger life is like – written by real rangers!

Plus, there’s a huge range of free nature-based activities you can download to enjoy in your local park or backyard. Have fun!

The Junior Rangers program is free and proudly supported by our Principal Partner Macpac, encouraging the next generation of nature lovers.
