More sporting opportunities for Albert Park community

Thursday 11 August, 2022

Communities in Melbourne’s bayside now have more opportunities to participate in sport, with works to expand the David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilion at Albert Park now complete.

The upgrades, which have been jointly funded and delivered by Parks Victoria, Sport and Recreation Victoria, AJAX Football Club and South Melbourne District Sports Club, have extended the existing building to deliver new female-friendly and all-abilities access changerooms. A new gym, meeting area and physiotherapy space have also been included in the works.

These important new facilities will enable more people to access the pavilion and get involved in community sport, particularly women and girls and people with accessibility requirements.

The David Mandie and Clarke Shields Pavilion is a much-loved hub for sporting clubs including the South Melbourne District Sports Club and the AJAX Football Club, located between Ovals 9 and 11 at Albert Park.

The expansion of these facilities supports the guiding principles of the Albert Park Masterplan, improving the quality of experiences available in the park, and meeting the diverse and changing needs of visitors.
