Seasonal road closures
Many roads and tracks are seasonally closed to vehicle traffic each year. These tracks are closed to vehicles for visitor safety, to maintain water quality and prevent erosion during the wetter months as rain and snow softens the tracks, making them vulnerable to damage.
Seasonal road closures generally operate from the long weekend in June through to the end of October, but may be extended due to seasonal conditions.
The Victorian Government is currently directing all Victorians to stay at home, restricting activities to slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).
Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives. Currently there are only four reasons to leave your house:
- For food and supplies that you need
- For exercise.
- For medical care and care giving.
- And for work and education – if necessary.
As a result of COVID-19 restrictions, high-visitation parks have been closed. For a full list visit our COVID-19 Update page.
Due to recent bushfire activity, a number of parks and forests affected by fire have also been closed. For a full list, check Fire affected parks.

Early seasonal road closures apply to areas within and tracks bordering the Alpine National Park and Yarra Ranges National Park from 1 May 2020 and Great Otway National Park from 1 June 2020. See the maps below for locations of the closures.
Please note, due to a mapping error on seasonal road closure Map 35C and Map 35D, Butcher Country Track is shown incorrectly as closed. Butcher Country Track is seasonally closed between the 11 June 2020 to the 29 October 2020. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
