Davies House Ruins (Terrick Terrick National Park)
The homestead can be accessed via Mitiamo-Kow Swamp Road. The graded gravel road is suitable for 2WD vehicles, but can become rutted and care should be taken in wet conditions. Park near the information board beside the ruins of the old homestead and explore the surrounding native grasslands on foot. Possum Paddock (named after a horse) directly to the east of the homestead is accessible by foot. Please leave the internal farm gate as you find it – if it is closed, please close it again behind you – and stay on the tracks to protect the fragile vegetation.
All native plants and animals are protected by law. Please do not disturb them in any way. Pets are prohibited.
There are no visitor facilities at the homestead, but the picnic area at Mt Terrick Terrick, about 20 minutes away by car, has picnic tables and toilets in a woodland setting. The short walk to the summit of Mt Terrick Terrick offers stunning views over the grassy plains and farms.
When driving around the grasslands, please take care when parking or pulling over. Roadside verges support long grass and native wildflowers which may conceal deep holes or boggy areas. Parking half on and half off the road is dangerous as local vehicles sometimes travel at high speed along rural roads. Please note that clay roads are suitable for access in dry weather only.
Terrick Terrick National Park is in the Northern Country Total Fire Ban District. Bushfire safety is a personal responsibility. For up to date information on bushfires in Victoria call the VicEmergency Hotline on 1800 226 226, download the VicEmergency app, or go to the Prepare and Get Ready tab at www.emergency.vic.gov.au.
