Hawkstowe Picnic Area (Plenty Gorge Parklands)

Plenty Gorge Park is approximately 20km north of Melbourne in South Morang.

Take a look back in time at the historic Hawkstowe picnic ground, set in a secluded area of Plenty Gorge. You'll be impressed by the brick and bluestone Le Page homestead, barn and stables.

This is a perfect spot for a picnic or BBQ that the whole family will enjoy. Electric BBQs, picnic shelters, accessible toilets and play spaces are available. A coal disposal bin is available for disposing of used coals.

Take a walk around the picturesque wetlands and discover the abundant wildlife. The trail is accessible looping around the wetlands with two viewing platforms.

Red Gum toilets closed and playground removed

The Red Gum Carpark toilet block is now permanently closed, due to recent vandalism. The playground has also been removed.
A new nature playground is underway at Hawkstowe Park.

Hawkstowe Picnic Area - Gordons Road Automatic Gate Now Operational

The automatic gate at the Gordons Road entrance to the Hawkstowe Picnic Area (Plenty Gorge Parklands) is now operational. The gate opening hours are between 7:00am to 5:00pm (standard time) and 7:00am to 7:00pm (daylight savings time). A vehicle detector has been installed to allow vehicles to exit the park after closing time. Please consider the gate opening hours when planning your visit to the park. After hours pedestrian access is available via the Red Gum Car Park and trails within the park.
