Lakes Loop Walk (Barmah National Park, Dharnya Centre)

Begin this circular walk at the Dharnya carpark or join at the the Barmah Lakes campground, day visitor area or Rices Bridge.

The walk passes through mature and regrowth River Red Gum trees past a number of Aboriginal oven (cooking) mounds. It skirts the edge of Barmah Lake, eventually reaching the Murray River and Broken Creek.

The Dharnya Centre sits within Barmah National Park, part of the Ramsar-listed wetlands of international significance. Recently upgraded with multimillion-dollar facilities, the Centre offers curriculum-aligned school camps (from 2026), in-school programs, guided Yamyabuc Trail walks, cultural exhibitions, and tailored corporate day experiences. This temporary closure is for track rationalisation and to preserve the state of this asset form further damage.

Track repair works along River Track

Parks Victoria is undertaking track repair works along River Track between Moira Lakes Road (North) and Barmah Creek (South). Works will commence on the 22nd of October and will take between 4-6 weeks. No access will be available during the works. Following completion of the northern section, the southern section will then be completed from Barmah Creek to Barmah Township. Works are scheduled to be completed prior to Christmas holiday period.
