Mt Arapiles Summit Picnic Area (Mount Arapiles-Tooan State Park)

At the end of Mount Arapiles Summit Road is the Summit Picnic Area. A short but steep 50 metre walking track leads from the car park up to the rocky mountain peak, which is 369 metres, above sea level, to the fire lookout tower.

Advice for climbers; Nesting wildlife

Peregrine Falcons and other bird species are currently nesting in the park from October until December

We ask you to avoid the following areas; Bards Buttress heading north along tiger wall, Behemoth, Guiding light and Campbells Kingdom.

All wildlife within the reserve are protected under the 'Wildlife Act 1975' and the rangers of the park are enforcing this act as well as national park regulations.

Safety Alert; Fire Pits

Upper Gums campground fire pits have been tagged out following a statewide safety alert until further investigations are completed.

Wood fires are not permitted in the park from 1 November until 30 April annually.

Advice for climbers; voluntary closures of 5 climbing areas remain in place

Parks Victoria has listened to community feedback. We will keep working with Traditional Owners, the local community, climbing groups, councils, business owners and others to improve our approach.

There have been no changes to current access arrangements at Dyurrite. The five voluntary closure areas remain in place with fewer but more durable signs being deployed and updated messaging online. The list of the voluntary closure sites are available in the link below.

Advice for park visitors; Centenary Park Shelter

Parks Victoria will be completing operations to demolish and remove the unsafe visitor shelter at Centenary Park in coming weeks. Minimal impacts to visitor access are expected during operations, however we request that park visitors observe all warning signage and exclusion areas during works. Parks Victoria will engage with the community on any proposals to replace this infrastructure.
