Woodland Walk (Coolart Historic Area)

The Woodland Walk allows you to explore coastal woodlands, wetland areas, lagoons and the formal gardens, which surround the Homestead. The Woodland Walk starts outside the Visitor Centre and has four different loops, each winding its way back to the Visitor Centre. Loop One is a 1km, 30 min walk. Loop Two is a 2km, 1hr walk. Loop Three is a 2.7km, 1.5hr walk and Loop Four is a 3.1 km, 2hr walk.

There is also a short link track from the Woodland Walk across a foot bridge over Merricks Creek estuary to Balnarring Beach. Hooded Plovers call the sand above high tide on this beach home, so it is important to follow all signage and keep off the habitat area for this magnificent but vulnerable beach-nesting bird. Snakes are also another creature that calls this area home, so please stay on the existing paths to avoid any unnecessary encounters.

Don’t forget to bring your camera or binoculars as spectacular views can be seen of Western Port Bay and Phillip Island. Pack a picnic lunch to relax and unwind after your walk or spend some time exploring the historic buildings that remain at the site.

All terrain wheelchairs may be borrowed from the Visitor Centre for people with limited mobility.
