Albert Park Pavilion at Oval One
Project status
October 2022: Complete
The project:
Albert Park, located on Bunurong Country, is a busy sporting hub in Melbourne with around 42 sporting clubs using 20 sporting fields, courts, ovals and the lake year-round.
With more than 11 sporting clubs using the ovals, and a growing number of adult and junior sporting teams at the park each year, the facilities had reached capacity.
Oval One also did not have toilets or change room facilities to support the needs of the sporting groups that play or practice at the oval.
To provide greater access for local sporting clubs and more opportunities for people to get active, connect with each other and participate in community sport, a new shared-use sporting pavilion has been built at Albert Park’s Oval One, complete with:
- Four female friendly change rooms
- Two umpires’ change rooms
- Kitchen/kiosk
- Community space
- First aid room
- Gymnasium space
- A covered spectator viewing area
- Scorer’s room
- Connecting paths and landscaping to link with other facilities within the park
These facilities will help meet the growing demand and changing needs of the local community, including increased participation in sport among women and girls. Local schools, including St Kilda Park Primary School, will also have access to the building.

Project funding and partner
Parks Victoria worked with Sport and Recreation Victoria to deliver this project, which was made possible thanks to $5.5 million in funding from the Victorian Government's Opportunities in Victorian Parks initiative.
Community collaboration
The functional design of the pavilion was developed in collaboration with a Sports Users Advisory Group, comprising of sports users who will benefit from the future pavilion including representatives from the local football, cricket, soccer and ultimate frisbee sporting groups. We worked closely with the group to ensure the future-users of the pavilion will have all of their needs met.
