Wheelchair to boat access at Patterson River
Parks Victoria has installed an electric hoist at the Patterson River boat ramps to assist wheelchair users to transfer safely in and out of boats. The hoist is free to use and is available to approved users who have attended a hoist safety induction session.
The hoist key can be borrowed from the Patterson River Tackle Shop (Launching Way Pty Ltd) located at Launching Way, Carrum. Please check the tackle shop’s opening hours when planning to use the hoist by phoning (03) 9772 5777.
Please note that the hoist is designed for lifting people in/out of boats and it is not designed for lifting wheelchairs. It is recommended that users of the hoist are seated in a manual wheelchair when using the hoist and also bring their own sling. Using the hoist for transfers in/out of boats should be avoided during very low tides.
Visitors interested in using the hoist are first required to attend a free induction session, provided by a qualified hoist trainer, on how to safely operate the hoist. The next induction sessions are on the following date and times.
When: Monday 17 May | Session 1: 10:00am-12:00pm | Session 2: 1.30pm to 3.30pm
Where: The Pontoon at the Patterson River Boat Ramps, Launching Way, Carrum
To register for one of the sessions, visit eventbrite.com.au and search ‘Hoist Induction’.
Attendees are required to bring their own sling.
